The 91抖阴 Berkeley Department of English is delighted to announce that Professor Andrew Way Leong has secured a major grant from The Henri and Tomoye Takahashi Charitable Foundation in the amount of $152,435 to provide funds for a project dedicated to the translation and conservation of the Japanese-language literary journal聽罢别蝉蝉补办耻听[Iron Fence], which was published during WWII in the Tule Lake Segregation Center. This major grant will assist in the continued translation and eventual publication of聽Tessaku, the digitizing and cataloging of Tule Lake related records at the National Archives (NARA), and the conservation of the Itaru Ina Collection, all in consultation with and led by a Community Advisory Board and a Translation Collective.
